Hey Bro! Check out my band!

NEWSFLASH! Nobody wants to "check out" anybody's band. Now that every person in the U.S. is in approximately 4.3 bands, there are more bands than there are "fans." If a band is good, people usually end up finding them one way or another. The problem with so many bands is that people "give themselves" away. They give it up for the chance to be a successful musician. They give up their time. They give up their money. They usually give their money to somebody else, whether it's a club, a promoter, a marketing/PR firm, or a bowling alley. They basically become a "slave" so they can call themselves a musician. I'm not talking about working club bands that make money. I'm talking about bands that are on a bill with 8 other bands to play for 20 minutes and they paid $400 for the slot. The bottom line is that they are being used. It's time for a "Doomsday Payday." The American Meltdown is apparently over, or is it? I'm working on making it good, so there will be good work. You can thank me later, when the police are using Predator Drones to patrol the skies over your city...I think it's time to rock!

Dude, Be Real!

I'm going to be honest with you. This year Jazz Farm has "stalled" out. We haven't played since last year and I've had a chance to re-evaluate what I'm trying to do here. When I originally started Jazz Farm, I wanted it to be a vehicle for my friends and I to make wacky cool music that we liked. It started to turn into a serious financial and mental black hole because of the way that I felt things "had to be done." I felt I had to use 2" tape. I felt I had to go to big studios. I felt I had to spend thousands mixing and mastering. It was fun, but I had to pay for it one way or another. I've since realized that freedom is the key and mobility is my friend. I've become extremely disenchanted with club bookers, clubs in general and people involved with the music business. If you want to financially bleed, book shows in "prestigious Hollywood clubs." So as I continue to work on the new recording, not because I still think it's possible to be rich and famous playing guitar, but because it's just something I do and need to say. With that said, I'm really excited to make exciting wacky cool music with my friends. Jazz Farm plows into the future whether you like it or not. That's something I've wanted to say for a long time.

We're really in trouble now! "Helicopter Ben" has decided to buy long term treasuries and sink the U.S. Dollar against all! Now might be a good time to brush up on those "tractor driving" skills for the farm. The Jazz Farm that is! New tunes await. Keep rocking!

As the end of January nears, my chops are sore and the markets are in turmoil! Nine new tunes are in the chute and my Mahavishnu Orchestra albums are sounding hotter than 1973! Who doesn't love McLaughlin! I got burned by the Naked SKF Feb. 110 Put today, but that's okay. I got out before any serious damage was done. Catch you soon and rock it! Scott

You wanted it, you got it! Along with writing new tunes, I'm curiously observing the value of the USD being eaten away every time the "Fed" (nothing federal about it) and Treasury bails out the "incompetents." It might be time to take it back to "tonal harmony" AC/DC style! The 4/12 Cabinet will set things straight and Eurodollar futures are up today. Keep it rocking on the Jazz Farm and see you soon!

7 Questions with John Wood.

1. Why do you prefer recording with a real B3 organ and not synths?
John: "The sound. The feel. No synth or digital keyboard has the same touch and feel as the Hammond. None of them have individual tone wheels that make that sound."

2. Is it hard to walk bass lines and glue the rhythm section together in songs such as "Trainspit Suicide" and "Grain Auger Amputee"?
John: "Very hard. It could be the hardest thing I've ever had to do in a group. Not only is locking in bass lines with the drummer hard, but doing it at a tempo that is physically challenging. It's like your fingers and mind are running a marathon."

3. What is your favorite thing about playing gigs in Los Angeles?
John : "The chicks/groupies. No just kidding. There are so many great bands, I can play 5 nights in one week and see 5 great bands that I haven't seen before."

4. What is your least favorite thing about playing gigs in Los Angeles?
John: "The chicks/groupies. No just kidding. There are so many bad bands, I can play 5 nights in one week and see 5 terrible bands that I haven't seen before."

5. Seeing that the song "Hollow War Mosquitoes" is a metaphorical account of war, what is your feeling about the current state of affairs in the U.S.?
John: "If more people thought about the current political climate and reacted in creative ways, then we might be on a quicker path to a peaceful solution."

6. Pro Tools or 2" Tape, and why?
John: "They both have their benefits. They can do their own things and work in different ways. It's
good to have both and use them as tools in the recording studio. In the case of Jazz Farm, 2" tape all the way."

7. Who is one person that inspires you to keep playing music?
John: "Bill Evans. He never stopped learning and always played with passion. He strived for perfection, achieved it, and then went beyond it."
